Turkey Collection

I started collecting turkeys about six years ago, after we moved into a larger house and I actually had room to decorate! My mom had always decorated for the seasons, and she actually gave me my very first turkey to get me started. He is a wonderful old paper mache candy container that I had always liked. Well I had a fun time adding to my collecton, which now includes anything from an adorable turkey shaped liqueur bottle that used to hold cherry wine, to salt and pepper shakers, lidded gravy boats, candy jars, candles and a very quirky plaster turkey from Mexico. I also add spice tins that used to hold poultry seasoning, and pumpkin pie spice. And of course you have to tuck in pilgrims and Indians to round out the bunch! I love decorating with a little bit of humor too, and often use an old set to blocks to put cute sayings in the display. This year they say "gobble", and previous years I' ve had "eat chicken", or "yummy!" Every year their little faces bring me joy as I unwrap them and put them out in my hoosier, and around my kitchen. Collections are ever changing and growing too. This year I found not just one but two old die cuts, and a very proud looking chocolate mold! You just never know what's waiting out there for you.

Nicole and her mother Betsy are dealers #16 at Country Roads. They have two awesome spaces, one in the main building, and one in the third building aka "The Mercantile". They have a good eye for that awesome vintage kitchen decor and peely primitive furniture we all love. Make sure you stop by their spaces next time you are in.
